UPDATED: A large tree branch has snapped and come crashing down on top of a car in Ryde tonight (Saturday).
The incident has taken place on Castle Street between the junctions of Nelson Place and Dover Street.
Due to the size of the fallen branch the road has been closed in both directions with local diversions in place.
Island Roads are on scene and are preparing to clear the debris.
Hampshire Constabulary have been tasked with contacting the vehicle’s owner.
Meanwhile, just a short distance away, Hovertravel have suspended their cross-Solent service due to adverse weather conditions. The company are down to just 1 hovercraft due to a major tecnical issue with Solent Flyer, which has been taken out of action for the next 7 weeks.
UPDATE – The debris has now been cleared and Castle Street re-opened to traffic.
