Motorists face a further 7 weeks of disruption in the Wootton area as utility company SGN progress their gas works to Park Road, which will be shut in both directions until 9th May.
It was in February 2023 that SGN began a £1.1million upgrade of the gas mains in the area of Briddlesford Road, in what was meant to be a 7-week scheme. But less than a year later, at the start of 2024, the road was suddenly closed without warning. This turned into 9 weeks of disruption with the road finally re-opening in March 2024.
In recent months SGN has been back in the area carrying out yet more gas main replacement works, which has seen temporary traffic lights erected at Wootton Common for over a month.
Now, it has been confirmed that Park Road – on the other side of the roundabout between Wootton Common and Lushington Hill – will be closed to all traffic between Friday 21st March and Friday 9th May.
Whenever Park Road is closed, there is significant disruption on Lushington Hill and Station Road, with all traffic diverting via the Cedars junction – including those heading to and from the Red Funnel ferry in East Cowes.
As a result, motorists should expect lengthy delays when travelling between Ryde and Newport over the coming weeks, especially during peak times.
Access to businesses, such as Care in the Garden, will be from the Lushington Hill side only.
