Significant disruption between Ryde and Sandown is to continue with confirmation from SGN that their emergency works at Yarbridge are set to last until at least 6th December, with a full road closure set to be put in place.
The gas company has been carrying out urgent repairs to the gas network in Brading for almost 2 weeks, since Sunday 13th November.
For everyone’s safety, temporary 4-way traffic lights at the crossroads were erected in order to keep the busy junction open to ensure minimum disruption to motorists.
The repairs have been more complex than first expected though and it has now been decided that specialist equipment is needed to help complete the project.
SGN has confirmed to Island Echo that from first thing on Tuesday (29th November), the road from Brading Downs/The Mall will temporarily be closed for 3 days, until 07:00 on Friday (2nd December), as engineers prepare for specialist equipment to arrive on Wednesday (30th November).
A signed diversion will be in place for those heading across The Downs towards Bembridge, Brading and Sandown. Temporary 3-way traffic lights will remain on Morton Road, New Road and Marshcombe Shute.
The temporary traffic lights – which will return to 4-way on Friday – won’t be removed until at least Tuesday 6th December once road resurfacing has been completed. By the time the works have been completed the lights will have been in situ for over 3 weeks.
SGN would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to the local community, with thanks for your patience while the crucial work is carried out.

Branding needs a bypass
So does Newport,Ryde, Sandown and shanklin.
Don’t worry lads you’ll still beat the wall lot at Queen’s Road, Ryde. Think they’re still waiting for their complicated complex highly specialist specialised equipment to arrive.
Might be a close run thing! They were working at Queen’s Road on Sunday! Maybe the elusive machinery has arrived
Do you mean a shovel and a broom to lean on
Once that farce ends. Island roads will have traffic lights in Binstead road area for another 6 weeks.
About time they done queen’s. Road urgent works what a joke be nice to see them do some work
Do any of these cowboys know what they are doing!
Could build a new road quicker.
Pathetic !!!, how can urgent repairs take so long ???
That’s easy! They could actually work there! Went through on Tuesday (silly me), a nice bright sunny day, not a soul on site!
Emergency work has to be done, people would soon whinge is gas mains leaked and they had no gas all utility workers should wear capes.
In the words of Ivy Searle, tarmac it. Oh it already is
Queens road is the entrance to the Red Tunnel
Am I the only one getting fed up with temporary traffic lights and diversions going up everywhere and every day..
How can it be emergency repairs when they didn’t start work for nearly a week after putting the temporary lights up? Even in the Echo photo here it’s during the daytime and there’s no-one working.
Hardly chaos is it. Temporary lights so add an extra 5 minutes to your journey. That’s all.
I was in a queue there for 15 minutes the other day.
It’s ridiculous
absolutely awful
that digger has been say there for 5 days
without any workers being present whilst 1000s of cars over the 5 days
Awful awful
