The icy conditions affecting the roads are now also causing issues on the railway network, with Island Line trains suspended until at least midday.
South Western Railway says that icy rail conditions between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin have led to the decision to bring all trains to a hlt.
It’s said that train services will remain suspended until 12:00.
UPDATE @ 13:29 – Services have now resumed with the first service being the 13:20 from Ryde St John’s.

trains never used to be suspended due to icy conditions many years ago
They had more trains running then.
The tracks had less time to freeze up.
In the past they used to run a train every hour or so throughout the night when it was icy
Not for hours on end anyway – just a short period early in the morning for frozen points. Always back within an hour or so.
It’s the wrong type of ice.
The “new” points have heating elements along the blades and motor assembly. With third rail DC pick up – ice can cause traction current faults or failures where the ice causes an insulator layer between the rail and the pick up shoe.
They’re back but all seem to be running 20 minutes late.
bring back the bone shakers please
