Schools, colleges, businesses, farmers, community groups and families are being encouraged to enter an Island-wide Land Art Competition ahead of this September’s Tour of Britain race arriving on the Isle of Wight.
The tradition of creating land art masterpieces along the race route has long been the practice at the Tour of Britain, as well as other cycle races around the world.
With over half of the Island classed as an area of outstanding natural beauty, along with its UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status, the Island offers plenty to shout about and showcase to the world.
With this in mind, Islanders are being urged to take inspiration from what’s on the doorstep and come together to create a special and historical masterpiece to help celebrate the prestigious race coming to the Isle of Wight. The more creative, spectacular and sustainably crafted the better; create your masterpiece with reuse, repurpose and recycle in mind.
There are 7 categories to choose from and a winner will be selected from each category by a local judging panel.
All winning entries will receive a £50 Wight Gift card that can be redeemed at registered businesses on the Island, both in-store and online.

And that just goes how pathetic some people are, I say that and wait for the backlash. Re-purpose some lycra into something more useful, oh wait hang on there isn’t. So sad that some people have to rely on a bike race to gain maybe 5 seconds of enjoyment as they speed by and cause chaos.
Yep and they Only announce this 2days after schools and colleges close – very intelligent, bit like those twits in Lycra . In some parts of world you would be arrested for tight fitting underwear
Stuck behind at least 50 wannabes today was far from enjoyable.
Why do we encourage this nonsense?
I’m happy for the backlash, or brain washed hate more like, bring it on idiots!…..
Why don’t you just f off to Switzerland and put yourself and the rest of us out of our misery.
I wish you would, TtfT, with your silly comments.
What is truly sad I’d a porky old git who probably can’t see his own todger over his gut criticising elite athletes.
Yes, some people are pathetic, just like you!
I was thinking the opposite. The two photos in the article are stunning. And if they are just for ideas, I think it will be a stunning competition. And I didn’t realise you have a UNESCO site, or areas of natural beauty. For an island fouteen miles by seven, you are an amazing place. But those who live there knew that already.
The Isle of Wight is diamond-shaped and extends 22.5 miles (36 km) from east to west and 13.5 miles (22 km) from north to south.
Wanker.
What a great idea, I love the photo of the bike and the hay bales. There are a lot of creative people on the Island, I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

This has not been a “long tradition” of the tour of Britain, which most of the public will never have heard of, it is a tradition of the tour de France. Thankfully we no longer have to follow their lead anymore. Hopefully they will suffer so many punctures over here that they will never want to return.
‘Try hurst first’ is all I’m saying:)
No need, the potholed roads should do the job!
Waste of time,
just grow food on the land and keep prices low for people.
Grow up and save such stupidity for the very young in playschool to muse about.
What stupidity. Put animals on the land to provide meat for the growing population of people.
Or just make Soylent Green out of nasty old Karens like you.
