Firefighters from Newport and Ryde responded to a block of flats in Cowes earlier this morning (Thursday) when smoke was seen issuing from a property.
At just after 08:30, reports were received in the control room that an alarm was sounding within a flat at The Green, near Crossfield Avenue.
2 appliances from Newport and 1 from Ryde were mobilised and whilst en-route further information came through to suggest smoke was also visible.
However, upon arrival of firefighters the cause of the alarm became clear with smoke from a toaster to blame.
The toaster was removed from the property and placed on the balcony.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service stood down from the incident shortly before 09:00.

Ffs………The Islands gone mad.
Doesn’t a toaster turn itself off after the toast is ready automatically? Could they not work out how to turn it off at the plug if it malfunctioned?
