VIDEO: Thousands of scooter enthusiasts have taken to the Island’s roads this weekend to participate in the annual Isle of Wight Scooter Rally in Ryde, with another successful ride out this afternoon (Sunday).
The event, which has been running since the 1980’s, has this weekend provided entertainment for all and with the seaside town becoming a hive of activity from late on Thursday, the local economy has once again benefited hugely from the influx of visitors.
Camping has once again been provided at Smallbrook Stadium, where local residents and visitors alike were invited to join in the party atmosphere during both the day and night with performances and food available.
Despite the poor weather forecast for today, the Met Office retracted a severe weather warning at the last minute and the blue skies opened above Ryde in time for the mass ride-out at 13:00 from Quay Road Car Park. Crowds of thousands watched on, lining Ryde Esplanade for as far as the eye could see.
This year the ride out route was changed, with the scooters going through St Helens to Carpenters Road, through to Brading and then back to Smallbrook Stadium instead of going through to Sandown. In previous years the tour of the East Wight ended at Sandown & Shanklin Rugby Club and last year ended at Culver Parade.
