Police responded at speed into Ryde earlier this afternoon (Sunday) when a member of the public reported that their life had been threatened with a knife on a residential street.
4 units were deployed to the corner of Well Street and Prince Street at 13:10 following a 999 call to Force Control.
It had been reported that a male in his 30s had been threatened by a man known to him, who was allegedly armed with a knife.
The suspect was subsequently located at an address on nearby Bank Place off the High Street. Officers moved in, some armed with a shield, to make an arrest.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 48-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and using threatening/abusive/insulting/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence.
He remains in custody at the current time.
Island Echo understands a knife has been seized as part of the Police’s ongoing enquiries.

People are dying all over the country due to knives and anti social behaviour. You appear to believe I am wrong and should consider moving. Do you not believe a problem is developing Island wide that needs addressing?
The Island is not immune from the current national crisis with regard to violence and Ryde is not the only area with problems. This is not acceptable and needs to be recognised and dealt with locally and nationally.

The courts should give a minimum sentence of ten years, but as we now have imported all the third worlds dross and filled our prisons up with such, NEVER again will meaningful sentences ever be given, and so the problem will grow ever worse.
