A 3rd man has been arrested following a break-in at Ryde’s Waterside Pool over the weekend (Saturday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, entry was forced to the community pool at Ryde Canoe Lake shortly before 03:00. The break-in caused the alarm system to go off, with Police arriving on scene quickly after.
Upon their arrival, officers located 2 intruders – a 24 and 31 year-old from Newport – who were both detained, cuffed and taken to Newport Police Station.
It is understood that the intruders damaged the pool’s external lighting and security systems in a bid to commit the crimes undetected.
Local contractors made the building safe the following day, with Waterside Pool able to open the following day.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has now confirmed that another man, aged 27, from Ryde, has also been arrested on suspicion of burglary and causing criminal damage. All 3 of the arrested men have been released on bail while enquiries continue, police said.
It is expected that the break-in will cost the Waterside Pool Community Trust thousand in damages.
