19-year-old Mitchell Shotton has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon after Police exercised stop and search powers in Ventnor yesterday evening (Wednesday).
Officers from the South Wight Neighbourhood Policing Team stopped the teenage on Ventnor High Street shortly before 20:15, it is understood.
Shotton, of Vereker Drive in East Cowes, was found to be in possession of an offensive weapon – namely an asp (expandable baton) – and was arrested on the spot.
He has now been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and has been bailed to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in due course.

Hope he gets the maximum sentence, there isn’t any excuse for carrying a weapon…you obviously intend to use it or why carry it.

He could of been carrying it for self defense but there are certain weapons you aren’t allowed to carry, a baton is one of them. I believe u can carry a pocket knife but it has to be a certain length.
