A teenage boy injured whilst wakeboarding off Bembridge Ledge was rescued by Bembridge RNLI this afternoon (Friday), the first of 2 jobs of the day for the volunteer lifeboat crew.
The All Weather Lifeboat ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ was launched at the request of Solent Coastguard at around 12:50 to medivac a teenager who had injured himself whilst wakeboarding behind a RIB in the vicinity of Bembridge Ledge.
The lifeboat crew placed the casualty in a stretcher and recovered to the Offshore Boathouse, where the teenage male was assessed by a paramedic before being taken with his mother to St Mary’s Hospital by Ambulance.
Just 2 hours later, the Inshore Lifeboat ‘Norman Harvey’ was launched at the request of Solent Coastguard to assist RNLI Lifeguards at Sandown with an adult swimmer, who had swum some considerable way offshore and was refusing to allow them to return him to the beach using their personal rescue craft.
The male did eventually agree to let lifeguards help him and the Norman Harvey, which was by that time en-route, was stood down and returned to Lane End.
