A 15-year-old boy from the Isle of Wight who allegedly planned to carry out a Islamic state-inspired terror attack at the Isle of Wight Festival, but was foiled by the FBI, has appeared in court in London today (Monday) charged with preparing an act of terrorism.
The teenager, who is currently legally protected from being identified, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court in the Capital earlier today.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the boy was quietly arrested last Monday (11th July) and held for questioning for several days before being charged on Sunday. It’s now known he was found in possession of a knife when he was detained by specialist Counter Terrorism officers.
The unidentified male is accused of preparing terrorist acts under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 – a charge he denies.
Magistrates heard today that the teen, who is said to support the ISIS ideology, had started planning a terror attack with the Isle of Wight Festival as the target. He had carried out research on weaponry and had even wrote a goodbye note to his family.
He was rumbled thanks to international efforts with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States of America.
The case has been sent to the Old Bailey where the 15-year-old will next appear on 19th August. In the meantime, he has been remanded in youth detention.

This has never been a country without immigrants from different countries and faiths, so I’m not sure what “enriched” means.

Was he preparing for next years festival or were the authorities incredibly slow to arrest someone for preparing for a terrorist attack that COULD have taken place nearly a month earlier but didn’t?

He is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and his young age protects him.
I find that reasonable as long as he is named if found guilty.
There was probably no danger to anyone at the Festival – just him drawing up all the plans for a fantasy attack. Next month, next year could be very different as he tries it all “for real”.
I’m sure I say this on behalf of all who live on the isle of Wight and the thousands of happy festival goers who arrive here every year just to have a great time.

Religion is the biggest evil known to man.
Certain religions are, and it is often how they are understood, or mis-understood by the followers of such.
This country was a far, far better place without enrichment, most are afraid to admit it, but most know it.
Surely we would never have had this sort of thing before enrichment so, the less enrichment the less the risk.

I am surprised the USA are concerned about people researching weaponry when their constitution guarantees possession of them. We have to wait for what “researching the IOW festival” actually means. I have probably done that myself. If you went through my web history you might find lots of things out of context – mostly about the 17thcentury and battleships but it doesn’t mean I want to overthrow the monarchy or bombard the Italian fleet at cape Matapan.
