A 17-year-old boy was arrested by Police at the ferry terminal in Fishbourne yesterday (Thursday) less than an hour after failing his driving test and allegedly becoming abusive towards the examiner.
It’s understood that the teenager travelled across to the Isle of Wight from Portsmouth yesterday morning to take his driving test in his own vehicle, a black Vauxhall Corsa. However, during the 45-minute examination, the examiner took the unusual decision to terminate the test there and then.
As the examiner walked back to the test centre at St Cross Business Park, Newport from the Hunnyhill area, it is alleged the learner unleashed a verbal tirade on the examiner who had just failed him.
With the situation calmed, a male accompanying the 17-year-old to the Island arrived and the pair drove back to the ferry terminal.
However, Police were not far behind and, according to witnesses, officers pulled the pair out of the vehicle before placing them in cuffs as they waited to board the Wightlink ferry.
It’s claimed that the male resisted and PAVA spray was deployed by officers.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 17-year-old boy from Portsmouth has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a person thereby occasioning actual bodily harm and obstructing or resisting a person assisting a constable in the execution of duty.
He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
There has been no mention of alleged driving offences or the detainment of the 2nd male.

Why come over to island for a driving test when you will be driving on the mainland?
Because island driving is suitable for idiots, there’s thousands on the island just like him….
And you’re one of those thousands Mr Burley Driver.
because there is no motorway here
Because he’s probably done this on the mainland and is band?? Seem someone needs to learn some humility and not be so entitled.
easier to pass over here…
This is what happens when you allow these people to take their test here. It is bad enough that Islanders are having tests re-scheduled or enduring long waiting lists just because so many learners have found our test to be easier than driving round Portsmouth! Let them wait in their City until Islanders have all taken their tests, then open the floodgates!
Little boy has probably always got what he wants regardless, this time not, clearly the examiner decided he should not be driving let alone complete test. Every one has had failure’s in life which then makes us stronger and try harder. Expect he has tantrums when he don’t win or someone has chicken nuggets than him !!!
Yes pee off back to the mainland you horrible little shite.
I think it’s terrible.
Congratulations to the woke police.p.s that’s sarcasm!
What are you even trying to say? :S
I’m saying there scum , homophobic, raciest police force
Mainland scum, this oxygen depleter is clearly not ready to be an independent driver if he flips his lid at such an occurrence – good riddance loser.
WTF why are these people allowed to take their tests here? Because they think it’s easier? Of course it is no dual carriageways, low speed limits, it’s not acceptable they are allowed to to this, go back to mainland and the roads are so much more dangerous and so much busier. This has to stop people here are having to wait for their driving tests, is it because these idiots get priority??
We have 3 dual carriageways on the island!
A few things we do not have… ANPR… level railway crossings.. Red lines… and a billion plus more cars…
Come to the island to pass a driving test? We all know what the standard of driving is like here on the island. All he would have learned here is how to put a car on it’s roof.
This idiots name should be on a list that all driviing instructors access, so he is unable to book a test in the future as he is obviously a threat to them.
With his attitude, he would be a danger to anyone on the road that upsets him in the slightest – not just Test Examiners.
And to others with a temper like that.
Dreadful behaviour but armed police a bit OTT
When police are called to an incident where the people have been violent, you don’t know what they are carrying on themselves or in the car. Better safe than sorry.
Have read and re read the article and can see no mention of armed police.
Are u blind? Look at the photo.
The roads can look forward to having this ‘piece of work’ driving on them! What is wrong with this kid. Seriously needs to grow up. Try again in 5 years time, you might have matured a little by then! Your certainly not suitable to be in charge of a car at this time.
He probably failed because he didn’t turn the car over on its roof!
Be more idiots like this coming over everyday if we were connected to the mainland
Very true Christine. And an even bigger drug problem. Increased crime, burglaries for one. I think everyone sees the island as an ‘easy touch’ So glad this big baby got Pava sprayed, hopefully he won’t be back anytime soon!!!!
LOL
I thought Pava was a dog virus
That’s an old excuse for not having a Tunnel… they come over in droves during summer, collecting their drugs… If there was a tunnel, first there would definitely be ANPR, before entering, plus there would be more Hampshire & Isle of Wight Police about… so a tunnel would not change the crime stats…in fact it would probably lower them. No ANPR boarding a ferry…
Fair play to the examiner, he quickly realised the kid was a prat
