A 16-year-old girl from Ryde has been charged with numerous offences following an incident in Newport yesterday lunchtime (Thursday).
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested after being detained by officers on St James’ Street in the heart of Newport town centre.
It’s at the corner of St James’ Street and High Street where it is alleged the teen assaulted a female Police officer, who sustained a head injury.
The incident began when an individual turned up at The Island Learning Centre on Albany Road with what was thought at the time to be a gun.
A 16-year-old girl has since been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 3 counts of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
She was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today.

She sounds delightful!… Must be her parents pride & joy
Silly girl has wreaked her future. Even imitation guns are prosecuted as heavily as real firearms offences, as they should be.
Not even being able to spell “wrecked” properly I’m sure your future is going swimmingly
Mystic Meg here predicts..She will get virtually no punishment and become a hero amoungst her chav friends..growing up..i use the term loosely..to be a vile woman..breeding many more vile children..which decent working class people will have to pay to keep..and be expected to feed through school holidays..
or maybe, just maybe, this intervention will allow her to turn her life around. Now which would you prefer?
It is NOT what we prefer, but what is the most likely an outcome.
Continued from above post.
You are likely to be not ONLY wrong, BUT YOU are just what is wrong with society today, always giving the benefit of the doubt, the second, third, and fourth chance to low lives, and proudly ‘boasting’ as a ‘success’ the ONE out of a thousand ‘who come good’ yet the other 999 failures are costing us all dearly to be molly coddled and given one to one help which is money, time and effort thrown away.
A case of do you want the ‘truth’ or something ‘beautiful’, and the nice but dim prefer to ‘think’ the latter, hence the problem grows ever worse year on year.
Fools think ‘she has thrown here life away’. IT will be shoving a buggy within a year, given a free home, the child to soon become children, will be a meal ticket and roof for life over it’s vile self, and with plenty of ‘lovers’ never registered to ensure it claims the max as a ‘single muver’
Wake up, this is not a Disney story, this is REAL LIFE.
Plenty more in the benefit hutches YET to fill Ryde coming soon.
You’re lucky you don’t have mental health problems. Though, judging by the way you type – and your anger, maybe you do.
No it’s you that’s wrong with society, with your shitty attitude, no one would ever get a chance to get out of the shit life that is dealt to most people! Working all your life to just about make ends meet, while the middle classes start off from a better start point… how lovely it must be in your ivory tower looking down on less fortunate…! Oh and I have my own business which I work hard for, but would never look down on people like people like you!
Wow!
I hope you are never in need of some compassion, Emma.
Emma you are most likely correct unfortunately. There used to be a really good scheme on the Island (Challenge & Adventure) run by an ex policeman called Graham, and was based at Newport Youth Club. He really did turn many young offenders lives around before he retired and unfortunately passed away soon after. I had the pleasure of working with him and still keep in touch with a lot of his success stories, who are now valued members of our community. It can be done but needs the right man at the helm! I’m not sure if the scheme still exists but it was good in its original form.
It’s it’s used as a toy it’s a toy, if it’s used as a weapon its a weapon and that can apply to anything
When will parants start taking responsibility, absolutely shocking what kids do these days,so much violence, if you can’t raise your kids to know what’s right and wrong and what’s absolutely discusting then don’t have them
“cannot be named for legal reasons”
Is that because she’s 16? I was working a 9-5 when I was 15!
sounds like a classic case of drug addict parents that don’t give s sh@T!
