A car has ploughed into a wall on a busy junction in Sandown this morning (Friday), leading to traffic tailbacks.
Police, paramedics and firefighters are on scene at the top of Broadway, close to The Heights leisure Centre.
It is here that a Renault has collided head on into a wall, also taking out a traffic bollard.
No serious injuries are thought to have been sustained. but the occupants are being checked over by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
A fire appliance from Shanklin is on scene, in the interests of safety, with firefighters directing traffic.
Delays are building in the area but the road remains open for traffic heading from Lake towards Sandown. Traffic heading towards Lake is being diverted around the block, onto Beachfield Road.
Meanwhile, there has been another collision in Wootton. The minor crash has occurred at Wootton Common roundabout, the diversion route for all traffic heading into Newport. This is causing some delays in the area there too.
UPDATE – Southern Vectis is advising of delays to its Routes 2, 3, 8 and Island Coaster buses this morning.

More absolute shit driving on the island how is this possible every single day??
So many numpty motorists on the island
that is why.
Also there are NO speed cameras
YAWN!!
I think frankly this comment is very silly.
No details are stated on how the driver crashed in this article. It might not have been the drivers fault. It could have been for example: An obstacle in the road, or maybe a pedestrian crossing the road suddenly. Even if it was the drivers fault, I wouldn’t go around calling people “Shit” At driving, because you never know what is happening behind the wheel.
When I am driving or sitting at traffic lights
I always look in my rear view mirror and it is
shocking the amount of motorists on their phones
texting.
Islandwide CCTV would catch the numpties.
YAWN again.
I agree with the goon it is shit driving, so many people just do not concentrate enough or do not anticipate someone pulling out on them etc, nowadays you have to be even more vigilant of the other drivers action!!
I totally agree with you it’s kinda worrying you go out in your car minding your own business and some idiot driver could crash into you?
All drivers need front and rear dashcams.
More bad driving on the Iow
When you look at the small population on the island
most dangerous roads in the country.
Don’t keep making up excuses, just like speeding is
RIFE
Doesn’t look as if any other vehicle was involved. In which case, barring medical episode or mechanical failure it looks likely that the driver simply lost control. If so, it begs the question should they be driving at all?
So many numpties drive day in day out many on the
wring side of the road, many hitting kerbs etc
Time for the majority of island motorists to go to
Specsavers
No wonder there are so many accidents if they are driving on the “WRING” side of the road.
Hope they didn’t hit traffic lights
Thankfully they didn’t that would be another 3 months.
I forgot to say, did they ever catch the numpty responsible
for crashing into the traffic lights in Lake?
Surely the registration number would have identified the
Numpty, maybe he has friends in the right places.
