Tasty and colourful crepes, ice cream and waffles are some of the treats on offer at Sweet Charlie’s, which opens in Newport High Street today (Friday).
The business, which opens its doors for the very first time at 17:00, is run by the husband and wife team of David and Charlie McLoughlin. This dynamic duo are well-known faces in the Island’s hospitality sector and have brought their customer service skills and ideas into this new venture.
Islanders are being promised a very different dining experience from 10:00 until 22:00 daily, with the doors staying open until 23:00 on Friday and Saturday nights.
Charlie comments:
“We’ve been planning this development for around 3 years now. We have pulled together our combined knowledge of what customers are looking for and what makes a great experience. We’re excited that we can start to deliver this.”
It is planned that Sweet Charlie’s will recognise people who have helped others through the pandemic, as well as those simply being kind and considerate in an ordinary way.
The ‘Nominate A Neighbour’ scheme allows customers to nominate a friend, relative or colleague to receive a sweet treat ranging from family dining to sweet bouquets. Charlie and the team will select from the nominations each week with a different deserving Islander receiving a treat every week.

hope it does well for them
Like we need another outlet to encourage obesity
Jo90. I don’t think this place is encouraging obesity. It’s offering tasty snacks, sweets and treats. If you decide to eat there and then have some other snack or meal elsewhere and then a packet of crisps on the drive home then of course it’s an issue. That’s how it works. For most people it works very well. For others not so well. This place isn’t encouraging obesity just like pubs don’t encourage alcoholism. They offer the service for the end user to do with what they will. Obesity is a people problem not a premise problem.
