A swan has become stranded on the frozen Ryde Canoe Lake this morning (Monday) with a brave member of the public donning his waders and attempting to rescue the stricken animal aboard a kayak.
Freezing temperatures have frozen a large portion of the lake with a single swan stuck on the ice at the splash park end of the body of water.
The swan has managed to drag itself along the lake struggling to grip the icy surface but is still a long way from safety.
1 member of the public, has entered the lake hacking at the thick ice with a golf club, slowly creeping toward the bird.
However, with the swan still a long way from open water and moving away as the kayak draws nearer, it is likely to be some time before it is able to roam the lake once more.
UPDATE – Rescuers have retreated to the warmth as it appears the swan has been able to move across the icy canoe lake of its own accord.
It appears the protected animal has been struggling for traction on the slippy surface, as opposed to be physically trapped.

Well done all involved
Absolute hero. swan says Thanks so much.
It’s good to know someone cares
No luck catching them swans then?
Lake has frozen many times in 68 years I’ve lived here ,wild life has never had a problem, it can survive without someone in a canoe
Well Done for seeing a need and responding.
