SUSPECTED GAS LEAK FORCES CLOSURE OF ISLE OF WIGHT SCHOOL

UPDATED: A suspected gas leak has forced the closure of Nettlestone Primary School this morning (Thursday).

The decision has been taken to suspend lessons for the day and send children home as a precautionary measure whilst the leak is investigated.

Parents have been asked to collect their children as soon as possible.

It is unknown at this stage whether or not the school will be closed tomorrow also.

UPDATE @ 11:17 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have not been called to the school.

Children are now being collected by parents. Staff members are welcoming parents in at the school gates.

UPDATE @ 13:07 – A gas leak has now been confirmed and engineers are on site to rectify the issue.

The Isle of Wight Council say the leak is not related to separate reports of an environmental smell in the surrounding area.

The school will open as normal tomorrow.
