The driver of an untaxed and uninsured van has been arrested after providing a positive drugs wipe whilst heading into Newport on Christmas Eve.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s High Harm Team were patrolling the roads when they came across the white Nissan NV200 on St George’s Way, near to Pan Lane.
Roadside checks revealed that the vehicle had no valid insurance cover in place, the MOT had expired a few weeks ago and that it was last taxed in July 2020.
The driver was asked to complete a drugs wipe which provided a positive indication for cannabis, resulting in his arrest.
He has now been taken into custody at Newport Police Station where blood samples will be taken.
The vehicle has been seized.
