Support is growing for a Councillor’s ambition to ditch the bland and tired looking green paint used to decorate beach huts in Ryde, replacing it with vibrant and exciting colours.
Cllr Wayne Whittle, who was successful in bringing Ryde Slide to the town earlier this year, has started another social media campaign to bring change to Council rules that mean the beach huts at Appley and Puckpool can only be painted in dark green.
At present all the beach huts are identical and offer no creative flare for their owners, unlike beach huts at locations such as Small Hope Beach in Shanklin and Colwell Bay, which have recently starred in a Telegraph article.
The idea has been met by opposition with some locals saying the green fits in with the historical woodland and shouldn’t be changed.
The Isle of Wight Council say a consultation with owners and tenants would have to be undertaken before any changes could be made.
