Local forecasters have issued a last-minute weather warning for the Isle of Wight as strong winds and heavy rain look set to hit within hours.
Forecasters at IW Met Service say that a short spell of very strong and gusty winds, accompanied by heavy rain, is likely to affect the Island later this evening as a potential squall line is developing.
Southerly winds will gust up to 50-60mph fairly widely and possibly up to 70mph for a short time over exposed hills and coasts.
The heaviest rain and strongest winds are expected to hit between 21:00 and 23:00 tonight but will quickly clear thereafter with much lighter winds following for a time.
There may be some temporary delays to travel and transport including cross-Solent travel for a few hours during the passage of the strongest wind and heaviest rain, with increased risk for motorists who are carrying out essential travel.
