Police have located and secured a stolen BMW, which will now be returned to its rightful owner, thanks to its onboard tracker.
Officers from the Island’s Roads Policing Unit have worked alongside UK tracking company ‘Tracker’ today (Thursday) to locate the expensive Z4 convertible.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were alerted to the stolen vehicle at lunchtime today and within 20 minutes had successfully located it.
When a vehicle is stolen the Tracker device emits a unique Very High Frequency (VHF) signal. This can be picked by the Police using the Tracker technology installed in their vehicles to help track stolen vehicles.
The owner is now able to get their vehicle back – and it appears to be in 1 piece.
As reported by Island Echo yesterday, over 50 motorists were stopped and dealt with by Police as part of a day of action by mainland roads policing officers, with 2 drivers arrested for drug driving. That enforcement action continues today (Thursday) with more mainland units deployed to the Island in unmarked and marked vehicles.
UPDATE @ 15:03 – In a twist to the tale, Island Echo is told that the car had been reported stolen but had in fact been taken away by the finance company who own it.

The culture of today, if not tied down someone will take it.
Scrots at their best.
Plod presses button, stolen car appears!
Since most modern cars have trackers (although not always enabled) how come more stolen cars aren’t recovered? Is there a value threshhold, or is the rightful owners’ identity a factor?
I hope your Morris Minor has got its tracker activated.
A very expensive but ugly car, however good news the owner has his ugly car back….no arrest I suppose? …
Always best to own your own car, to save it from finance company repossession. Top tip people
i suppose the scum was’nt caught …na did’nt think so
It wasn’t stolen in the end the finance company took it back
So it wasn’t stolen? Hilarious the finance company took it!!
he knew damn well the finance company took it back. he just thought he could pull a fast one. should be charged with wasting police time
