There is still time to visit the Island’s array of magical Christmas lights displays and vote for your favourite in this year’s Light up the Wight competition. Throughout December, families have been jumping in their cars – and on the Southern Vectis tour bus – to visit the variety of wonderful festive displays across the Isle of Wight. More than 800 votes have already been cast by Island Echo readers in a bid to accelerate their favourite display onto the podium for a chance of winning a share of £700 prize money, made possible thanks to our friends at Southern Vectis. Many of the 26 displays included on this year’s map will remain switched on until New Year’s Day, meaning there is still time to download the official map at www.islandecho.co.uk/xmas before heading out on the road and then voting for the best. Last year’s winner, Goldcrest Close in Carisbrooke, will be hoping to secure another podium place this year. The display is now lit up each night between 17:00-20:00. Both Wellesley Way in Newport (16:30-20:00, static 20:00-21:30) and Bannock Road in Whitwell (16:00-23:00), which came 2nd and 3rd in last year’s competition respectively, are also back with bigger and better displays this year.
To download the official map and vote for your favourite display head over to www.islandecho.co.uk/xmas.
Voting closes on 31st December 2023 and the winners will be announced in early January.
