An absence of a critical crew member has resulted in the cancellation of some sailings on the FastCat service this evening (Tuesday).
As a result of the issue, the 21:45 and 22:45 from Portsmouth and the 22:15 and 23:10 from Ryde have been cancelled.
All customers will be able to use their tickets on the Fishbourne – Portsmouth vehicle ferry service.
A Wightlink spokesperson has said:
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this action will cause but we have been unable to source short notice cover for the absent member of staff and so have taken this action as a last resort.”
Service — What service ?
They supply a great service 99.7% effective not like the hovercraft going out of service as soon as a little bit of wind rears it’s head if it wasn’t for wightlink half the islanders would be stuck for the majority of the year… stop bloody moaning
Where were the fast cats during COVID. Did not run Hovertravel were brilliant. Wightlink are a joke Hourly service Monday to Friday even now during summer holiday. Hovertravel half hourly.
Half hourly until 8:30 that’s great if your going to London for the day or maybe to watch a show that’s starting in the afternoon really great that is finishing at that time because that’s great for us to get home. If hover are so great what you worrying about wightlink going out for two boats ? someone is living rent free in your head
if it wasn’t for wightlink……there would be a different ferry operator – your argument is BS danny
Another company that will still charge you to use there services WIGHTLINK is the best out there without a doubt just like hover travel not running right now so who is it that gets them all home oh yeah that’s it wightlink.. silly me
horses for courses Danny – wightlink have cancelled their 0547 fastcat on a number of occasions lately – who took all the wightlink customers to portsmouth – oh Hovertravel did and they laid on an additional service to accomodate the extra demand for services.
you are of course aware that Hovertravel has strict operating limits imposed on it by the MCA – Meaning, if the wind goes above a certain level, they must cease operating until the wind has abated or they lose their licence to operate.
don’t ever let the facts get in the way of your mindless, rant eh danny
Couldn’t agree more well said
what they mean is..
one of the crew has gone sick and this means they are below the legal minimum to operate the boat. No other employees who are crew are able to work, as this puts them below the minimum required break between shifts under UK maritime law and those that are able to, are just not willing to come in on their day or days off.
Wow. A post by you that isn’t offensive or racist. This is making my diary.
please list one message that islander has put up that is racist – unless you can actually provide evidence, then you are lying
oh – and you are aware that anyone can use the name “islander” as it is open to all to use, not just one person.
What a pathetic excuse !!!
WIGHTLINK IS AMAZING THEY SHOULD INCREASE THEIR PRICES MORE I THINK THEY PROVIDE A EXCELLENT SERVICE AND THE PRICE ISNT FAIR FOR WHAT THEY PROVIDE LETS RAISE THE TICKET PRICES AGAIN
Why don’t you stop widening people up with your stupid remarks Danny
So, to be clear, that critical member of staff would normally only cover 4 crossings?
Or, and I’m open to being called cynical here, it’s once again either the late night or early morning crossings which get cancelled i.e. the ones with the fewer bookings.
It is just possible that the crew member who has gone sick can’t be covered by others due to working hours regulations, minimum rest breaks, other crew being on leave, having lives outside of work etc.
I would be very surprised if one crew were on duty for just 4 hours and one other crew covered the remainder of the days sailings without a break…Looking at the service schedule I would expect three crews a day are needed to run the service. That doesn’t leave a lot of slack then.
That’s ok just use the hovercraft….. oh wait a minute, they are cancelled and telling people to use the fastcat.
