A 37ft yacht that had its spinnaker wrapped around the propeller was in clear need of assistance from Cowes RNLI lifeboat late yesterday afternoon (Monday).
The incident occurred in Osborne Bay, and the lifeboat was duly launched to help at 16:20.
Volunteer crew members found a man and woman on the yacht – named Pepé – and the sail too tightly wrapped for it to be immediately unravelled.
The lifeboat crew’s only option was to carry out an alongside tow of the yacht to Trinity Landing. There it was to remain until the sail could be removed by local divers.
The lifeboat returned to its station at 17:20.
Seems to me that there is an opening for a breakdown service on the water.
We don’t call for an emergency service if a car breaks down.
It’s called Seastart.
