A speedboat with 5 persons on board – including 2 children – has run aground on Bembridge Ledge this morning (Saturday).
The alarm was raised at around 11:00 when the vessel was seen to be high and dry on the rocks close to Bembridge Lifeboat Station.
Bembridge RNLI’s D-class inshore lifeboat has been utilised to reach the vessel and bring the casualties safely ashore at the lifeboat station slipway.
Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge have met with the 5 individuals and offered appropriate safety advice.
HM Coastguard are urging Islanders to take extra care during these extraordinary times. Read more at https://www.islandecho.co.uk/hm-coastguard-asks-everyone-to-take-extra-care-in-these-extraordinary-times/.
UPDATE @ 13:02 – Rather than risk having the powerboats’s crew walk back out to their boat and waiting for the tide to come in, the current plan is to launch the All Weather Lifeboat ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ at around 18:00 to recover the powerboat to Bembridge Harbour.

Seems no one listens to good advice to be more careful whether it be driving, on the sea, tracks or just strolling off a cliff or having one fall upon us.
Still I guess the emergency services are not all sat at the bedside of those with CV, so, it for them, is businesses as usual.
Good job they are all fit and able though. They do a great job and reassuring to know that despite seeming to be a little over the top, that we are all well cared for in such dire times.
Left hand down a bit.
Total idiot
All from the same household?
The Posh don’t think rules apply to them, as doesn’t the low life in society, it is just for everyone else in between.
Or the chavs….guess thats low life heading..
Yes, probably Gordon Ramsey and family – ‘ seems quite fashionable to take a pop at him these days!
I used to work with a bloke who resented those who were ‘better off’ than him… always ready to dig at those who’d gone to a private school….fancied himself as some sort of ‘working class hero”.
He was a pr*ck too.
We really need to tighten up on who is allowed to buy water craft.
You wouldn’t just get in a car for the first time and expect to drive and know all the rules of the road (although some people think they can!)
The Bembridge ledge is marked on all navigation charts, but I guess the person didn’t bother to check any charts before he set off, or even knew that they existed!
He has potentially put all his family at risk, plus the lifeboat service, by going ‘out for a jolly’ presumably.
Glad everyone is safe though. Just got to launch the All Weather lifeboat later – more cost and crew time – to get the powerboat back to a safe harbour! Let’s hope nobody else needs them whilst they are doing this!
Not as if the ledge has not been there for years ..there’s no excuse for idiots with money !
What an IDIOT !!
Probably drives a BMW as well
