newportpolice400UPDATED: Police have today (Friday) arrested a second man as part of an investigation into 2 separate incidents in which young teenage girls were approached by a male pretending to be an undercover Police officer last month.

As previously reported by Island Echo, a 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after several young girls were approached in East Cowes and Freshwater on the evening of Saturday 20th August.

Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that they have today arrested a second man – a 58-year-old from Freshwater – in connection with the incidents. He has been arrested on suspicion of several sexual offences and remains in police custody for questioning at Newport Police Station.

The 58-year-old originally arrested in connection with the investigation remains on police bail until 18th October.

UPDATE SUNDAY – The 58-year-old male that was arrested on Friday has been bailed until 5th October pending further enquiries, according to Police.
