UPDATED: A search involving HM Coastguard and Ryde Inshore Rescue is underway at Ryde Esplanade this morning (Thursday), where a member of the public has heard cries for help.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Ryde Rescue 1 lifeboat are currently conducting a search of the sands and sea surrounding the pier from where a woman waiting for the catamaran ferry heard cries for help.
Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter is also being tasked to conduct an aerial shoreline search of the area.
UPDATE @ 11:40 – The search has been called off as nothing untoward has been found by Coastguard teams, Ryde Rescue or the Coastguard helicopter.
The shout is said to be a false alarm with good intent.
