The Reform Party will be fielding 2 local candidates at the next general election. Sarah Morris, from Shanklin, will be representing Isle of Wight East and Ian Pickering, from Freshwater, will be standing for the Isle of Wight West seat. Both candidates say they want to concentrate on issues that affect the Island such as housing, employment, education and health care but also believe that nationally there are significant issues to address. Reform UK says it will introduce a lower income tax threshold of £20,000 putting an extra £30 per week in people’s pockets and free 1.2 million small businesses from corporation tax. The party will also remove other consumer taxes. There will be zero VAT on energy costs and the environmental levies will be scrapped. Fuel duty will be lowered by 20p per litre and VAT reduced to 18%. These measures will save the average household £800 per year. Ahead of the general election, Reform UK says teachers must be free to teach pupils how to think, not what to think, and prepare them for entry into the workplace by introducing a new apprenticeship scheme where many young people will earn while they learn rather than accrue a huge debt while at university.

Considering that the Reform party is organised as an absolute dictatorship (they have the legal minimum of 3 members who call all of the shots) and, if they get any MPs, they will have to do exactly what unelected party leader, Tice, tells them to do.
A vote for Reform is a vote for despotism.
Lots of bold promises but we can only assume that these tax cuts would have to be funded by equivalent cuts to spending on healthcare and/or education because money doesn’t grow on trees. Pie in the sky really.
The financial bits sound good but I would like to know how they will propose to pay for these cuts. The money has to come from somewhere… Also, would the fuel duty cut be passed on to drivers, as the last “cut” was just kept by the fuel companies.
Reform will get my vote.

Hopefully they will get the money by stopping mps who earn 80+k a year from abusing their expenses, scrapping 2nd home allowance with all bills included along with all the subsidises they received, like travel allowance etc. Looking at the calculations that could save a few hundred million. Between the Cons and labour they’ve build themselves a night little slush pit for themselves.

Gets my vote, and have to say I’m glad the isle of wight is fielding these candidates, I and many others have been betrayed by the leftist tory party.
It all looks very good to some who have rejected this government ,but I would love to see what there real agenda is , what about better island sea defences ,more help with social housing ,a cap on rent ,more dentist on the island ,these are things people care about ,so be honest and tell us
So they are concentrating on local issues but don’t realise that we have chaotic and expensive ferry services, they’d just as well give up now!

Nobody expects reform to win a general election yet, but a journey of a thousand miles starts with just one step.
Labour and Conservatives have broken this country and they share that arrogance of being the “big two” or only parties that could get into power. It’s high time they were knocked off their pegs, so i say good luck to the smaller parties who eventually might teach them a lesson in looking out for the country instead of themselves. You will get my vote this year reform.
