A 53-year-old man is being questioned by Police following an incident in Sandown this afternoon (Friday).
Police were called to Fort Street in the town at 13:24 following reports of an assault.
A number of officers responded to the scene at speed and soon detained a male, who has since been conveyed to Newport Police Station for questioning.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that the Sandown man has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He remains in custody at this time.
