Emmie Archer has become the first member of the 4th Sandown Brownies to gain the Brownies’ Golden Award. She has been a Brownie with 4th Sandown Brownies from the age of 7 and is now 10 years old. Before becoming a Brownie Emmie was no stranger to the unit as her grandmother Angela Smith is the long time volunteer Brown Owl and her Mum Fiona Smith is now a Leader in Training. All the leaders are extremely proud of her as she has worked so hard to achieve this, her commitment to Brownies was outstanding, with very few meetings missed over the years. Emmie has also completed all 18 Interest badges, even though she only needed to complete 6 for her Award. Before the presentation of her Award Emmie prepared and taught the other Brownies a craft as the last part of her Gold Challenge. This was followed by a special presentation of a certificate, cloth badge and a metal badge. In true Brownie style, the formal presentation was followed by handmade cupcakes, balloons, a confetti cannon and a card signed by everyone in the Unit. Emmie said that the best thing about being a Brownie was learning lots of interesting useful things, whilst having fun and attending all the day trips, camps and Pack holidays. The badge she enjoyed the most was the Charities Badge where she chose to support the Trussell Trust by doing a sponsored read. She completed her 369 page book in one week and raised £55 for the charity. This was followed by a visit to one of the food banks on the Island where she donated a big bag of food and spoke with one of the volunteers who explained what they do to help people. Having enjoyed her time in Brownies so much Emmie wanted to continue her Girlguiding adventure so has now joined lake Guides.
