Throughout 2023, customers at Salty’s in Yarmouth – helped along with generous top-ups by the restaurant’s owners – raised an incredible £5,000 for Yarmouth RNLI. Yarmouth’s lifeboat crew, members of the launch authority and fundraising team were presented with the bumper cheque by former business owners Melanie and Ed Panek on Thursday (6th June). The volunteers heard how customers at Salty’s donated £1 per person when dining in the 2-AA rosette restaurant, located adjacent to the RNLI Lifeboat Station. The funds raised were then split between Salty’s chosen charities, with the Panek’s match-funding the donations. Ed Panek said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be presenting this cheque for £5,000 to the RNLI Yarmouth on behalf of our former customers at Salty’s and ourselves. This brings the total amount raised for RNLI Yarmouth to £15,000 over the 3 years of our ownership of Salty’s”.
Melanie added:
“Many of our customers travelled to Salty’s on their boats and all will have travelled by ferry at some stage, and the RNLI continued to keep our customers safe with their brave protection of all our lives at sea”.
This donation will help to continue the lifesaving work at sea at Yarmouth RNLI by training new volunteer crew members and providing the crew with new lifesaving equipment. Salty’s has now been taken over by the team behind The Hut in Colwell, as previously reported by Island Echo.
