Police are working to close in on those responsible for a series of safe thefts on the Isle of Wight after a second pub was targeted over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
As previously reported by Island Echo, The Sun Inn at Hulverstone was broken into by 2 men armed with an axe and a safe was taken on Monday last week (23rd August). The safe was later found empty in Shorwell.
Now, it has been confirmed that a second safe has been stolen – this time from The New Inn pub at Shalfleet. The theft took place overnight on Sunday into Bank Holiday Monday.
The owners of The New Inn have wished the robbers good luck if they try to open the safe, as they will be disappointed with the contents inside.
Hampshire Constabulary says that enquiries are ongoing into both incidents.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44210338990 for The Sun Inn and 44210346254 for The New Inn.
let’s hope its red dye sprayed out of safe on too thieves!spot them then the scumbags
Why are they called safe’s?? Seem ironic to me that you can steal one
You wouldn’t be able to carry a proper safe as way to heavy and prob fixed in concrete to the ground , so these safes that has been stolen recently seem hardy fit for purpose
The Police perhaps ought to check out the OLD scrap yard at Rookly, the one behind the large car sales establishment.
Albeit a few years ago now I know that there was a then newish looking safe there which had been cut open. Maybe the owner had lost the combi but as the scrappy was supposed to be closed for business even then, maybe they are removing the dosh and disposing of the safes somehow?
Need to check any CCTV on the road to the scrapy IF involved, as most likely all could be totally innocent, and check out cars near the pubs to get a match and then job done.
Please send my reward in free beer tokens officer.
one of the safes was located in rural area.
Think all pubs should fill their safes with dog pooh or cow dung that would sort the scumbags out !!!!!
Have to say love the comment they will be disappointed lol….
