UPDATED: Emergency services from across the Island are attending a road traffic collision at Blackgang this evening (Tuesday).
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to reports of a road traffic incident on Blackgang Road near to the viewpoint car park shortly before 20:50.
4 fire appliances from Newport, Ventnor and Shanklin, as well as a fire officer, have all been called to the incident where it is believed an occupant of a vehicle is needing to be extricated.
Several ambulance crews from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have also responded to the scene.
The main A3055 through road from Niton to Chale has been closed by Police in both directions and is likely to remain closed for sometime.
The road has been closed between the bottom of Blythe Shute in Chale at the junction of Chale Street and from the one-way system in Niton with the junction of Church Street.
Traffic is currently diverting via Niton Road, Appleford Lane and Chale Green until further notice.
UPDATE @ 21:55 – It’s understood the incident has involved a single vehicle, which has required the assistance of firefighters to cut an individual free.
A second casualty has also been injured within the collision, who is being dealt with by paramedics.
At least 1 fire appliance has now left the scene.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY 07:00 – The driver of the vehicle has now been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for surgery.
