Plans to turn a Ryde Esplanade favourite into a pool hall are one step closer.
An application has been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council by Ronnie Keates, of Rocket Ronnie’s Pool Hall in Newport, to turn a former arcade on Ryde Esplanade into a pool hall.
The Arcadia Amusements building on the Esplanade, opposite the Ryde Bus terminal, has been undergoing some external work to make way for its proposed new use.
Permission is being sought to change the use of the building from an arcade to a pool hall while also serving takeaways.
In planning documents, Mr Keates said internally the space will be updated and a bar built with enough space for seating and ten pool tables. He also said he felt he would breathe new life into the property, which has been an arcade since it opened in 1946. It was also used as a bingo hall.

Another sea front to be destroyed by the council. How many holiday makers want to go into a pool hall for a few minutes fun on a wet afternoon? I can see the kids loving it—-not.
PMSL are you for real Joe ? the former “Arcadia” which ran for many decades ( I can remember as far back as the 70s) not only had fruit machines and bingo but also several pool tables in the back so actually operating a pool hall its nothing new . Just what have the council got to do with destroying the sea front clearly you just want to have a pop at the council , it’s better to have a Pool Hall than an empty premises , and who says such a facility should be just for the Grockles !!! I am sure it would also be used by Islanders .
2 pool tables actually, not several.
Somewhere for dead heads to hang out
Should suit you then.
They wouldn’t print me answer so see you there nick the pri k
Great Idea, Fill it with something that brings in revenue. Much better than an EMPTY Building, I for one would be going there with my wife. She’s a bit of a hustler and can whip my BOTTOM playing pool. for me this a great idea.
Maybe the people with the negative comments should visit my other 2 clubs that are not run by the council or full of dead heads, maybe I could leave the building empty therefor not employing anyone, not pay business rates, not have a place to people to go and socialise, I could turn it into a coffee shop for know it alls and it would be packed….
