RIFLE SEIZED AND PENSIONER ARRESTED BY ARMED POLICE AFTER INCIDENT IN CHALE

Armed Police have arrested a 76-year-old man after he allegedly threatened another man with a rifle in Chale Green earlier today (Tuesday). It was at 10:30 this morning that Police were alerted to reports that a man had been threatened with a firearm at an address in the rural village. The 999 call prompted the immediate deployment of Armed Response Officers, with further specialist officers rushed across the Solent to Fishbourne by a Ministry of Defence launch. The mainland officers were picked up by local units and blue lighted across the Island to the unfolding situation in the South Wight. It has been confirmed that a 76-year-old pensioner from Chale Green has now been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and possessing a firearm without a certificate. He remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time. An old rifle has been seized.
