Yarmouth RNLI’s all weather lifeboat the Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer) was launched to go the aid of a RIB in difficulty some 25 miles south of the Needles Lighthouse yesterday evening (Wednesday).
After a journey of just over an hour having launched at 18:52 in force 4-5 southerly winds and a slight to moderate sea, the lifeboat arrived on scene at approximately 20:00 to find a 7m RIB suffering from mechanical failure due to problems with its fuel system. On board were one adult and one child who had been in transit to Jersey.
An attempt was made by the volunteer lifeboat crew to repair the fuel problem, but to no avail. The two RIB passengers were therefore transferred aboard the lifeboat and a tow was established for the return journey to Yarmouth Harbour, which was completed just after 22:00.
There will be a demonstration off Yarmouth with the Coastguard Rescue helicopter 104 at 19:00 on Friday (21st August). Visit the website for more information – www.yarmouthlifeboat.org.uk.
