Red Funnel has confirmed a number of cancellations for its hi-speed Red Jet service this morning (Monday) as staff shortages continue to cause problems for the cross-Solent operator.
Due to a crew member being unavailable, the following sailings have been cancelled…
From Southampton: 0615, 0735 and 0855
From West Cowes: 0655, 0815 and 0935
Red Funnel has apologised for the cancellations, but there appears to be no end in sight for the continued disruption caused by staff shortages.
UPDATE @ 15:20 – An issue with the starboard engine of Red Jet 4 has seen the vessel towed back to Southampton.
As a result, the 15:35, 17:35 and 18:55 sailings from West Cowes and the 16:55 and 18:15 from Southampton have been cancelled.
Red Funnel apologises for any inconvenience to your journey.

Using covid as an excuse again !!! Can’t be bothered to get up on a Monday morning, about time red funnel got rid of the dead wood dregs.
Looks like it bob. About time we all just got on with life as normal. If it’s the same people using the same excuse, sack them and hold a recruitment drive for people who want to work.
They won’t be able to use Covid as an excuse for much longer, I wonder what they’ll think of as an excuse for rubbish service then?
Until the self isolation restrictions are lifted then it is going to be an on going problem.
They need to hire more key people ie pilot’s and spread the work so there’s always staff available..no rockets involved
That could lead to higher fares due to higher operating costs.
I’d rather pay an extra 2 quid than miss vital appointments flights and other important stuff. Sometimes its peoples lives hanging in the ballance and they get trapped here. They wouldn’t allow fire escapes to be closed willy nilly and its tant amount to the same thing really..should be something in place so we can always be guaranteed to be able to leave here..fixed link would certainly solve the issue. I’m not really a fan but whats the alternate ? Keep getting trapped
What’s the alternative ?
Move to the mainland and stop living on an island.
Well said KK. Cancellation of services seems to be an accepted culture now because of Covid. I’m not a fan of a fixed link either but what they get away shouldn’t be happening in a market economy.
I disagree, fixed link is a great solution. Then perhaps people like my son won’t get charged £200 to bring his car home at busy periods from university
Easy solution…. Move to the mainland then!
Covid lead swing offence is becoming very transparent everywhere now.get too work lazy gits.
Flue or colds dont stop you.
This nonsense needs too stop
Covid is just another virus too live with now
I have talked to some of the cabin crew on the Red Jets over the last few months following the regularly disruptive Red Jet service caused by staff absenteeism.
I was told that, apart from Covid, the ‘Brexit Effect’ has had a real impact on staffing levels because so many Europeans have departed Red Funnel and the UK and they have only been replaced by Brits who, unlike the guys from Poland etc., “can’t be arsed to get out of bed in the morning” and use Covid symptoms as an excuse.
Acquaintances in hospitality businesses on the island say the same thing.
Yep, the British are lazy because they refuse to work a 60 hour week with little or no job security on below minimum wage to help the rich get richer.
Blooming Brexit, how dare they put an end to unskilled workers from around the world undercutting our own working class people from being treated fairly and feeling appreciated, instead of being treated like s**t.
Who ever is driving them needs a map. Just passed one, and I was on the fast cat in Ryde!
