Howling winds that are causing adverse weather conditions on the Solent have led to the cancellation of some cross-Solent services this afternoon (Wednesday).
Red Funnel’s hi-speed Red Jet service between West Cowes and Southampton has been suspended in its entirety until further notice, with an update due at 17:00.
Hovertravel has also suspended their cross between Ryde and Southsea as a result of the weather conditions, also stating that an update will be given at 17:00.
It’s unclear if either service will resume at that time.
Those looking to head to the mainland, or to the Island, via Hovertravel can use tickets on Wightlink’s Fastcat.
Car ferry services are operating as normal at this time.
UPDATE @ 19:00 – As a result of the weather conditions improving, Red Funnel’s Red Jet service has resumed – all be it with delays of up to 30 minutes.
Hovertravel services will resume at 19:15 from Ryde and 19:30 from Southsea.
UPDATE @ 19:48 – Hovertravel has now announced that services have been suspended for the rest of the evening, with an update due at 05:45 tomorrow.

I’m a bit peed off with god at the moment.
How dare he make the weather bad in the depths of winter.
Does he not relise that human beans (spelling aleart) need to go to hospitals on the mainland,
or get to their very well paid jobs ect ect……. Please God, could i have my cake and eat it.
Unfunny and cringe
So many people complaining about cross solent travel, especially the hovercraft that obviously can’t run in bad weather.
Why do certain people choose to live on an island to start with, put up or shut up.
Not trying to be funny, just fed up with all the constant moaning from people who were not even born here……comprehenday ?
