Red Funnel will continue operating a reduced two-boat vehicle ferry timetable until Saturday 7th June to complete vital maintenance work on its fleet.
The company had been expected to resume a full three-boat service before this date but says the extension is necessary to carry out preventative engineering work on both Red Osprey and Red Eagle.
The maintenance forms part of Red Funnel’s wider resilience programme, designed to reduce the risk of breakdowns during the busy summer season. The work is being undertaken with the support of the vessels’ engine manufacturer.
Fran Collins, CEO of Red Funnel, has said:
“We fully understand the importance of a dependable ferry service for our customers and the community.
“Extending the two-boat timetable was not a decision we took lightly but is a further step in delivering our commitment to long-term reliability.”
The operator, which carries over 2.3 million passengers and 800,000 vehicles across the Solent each year, says it is contacting all affected customers with bookings between 20th May and 7th June. Affected customers will be notified by Thursday (15th May).
Red Funnel says it is working closely with local partners to minimise disruption for residents, businesses and visitors. For support, customers can contact: [email protected].
