Isle of Wight athletes recorded a string of strong individual results at the Hampshire Cross Country Championships at Fairthorne Manor on Saturday (4th January).
Alice Rayner (Isle of Wight Road Runners) was the first Island athlete home in the senior and masters ladies’ 9km race, stopping the clock at 45:30. Clubmate Carolyn Littleton followed in 52:31, also claiming third place in her age category, with Ryde Harriers’ Pauline Stirling completing the Island results in 58:27.
In the senior and masters men’s 11km race, Ross Wilkes (Isle of Wight Road Runners) led the Island finishers with a time of 44:47. Trevor McAllister (Ryde Harriers) crossed next in 49:57, ahead of Ben Rand (Isle of Wight Road Runners) in 51:25. Johnny Jenkins (51:44), James Shoulder (52:08) and Rob Holdsworth (56:50) all added further solid performances for Isle of Wight Road Runners.
Speaking after the event, Isle of Wight Road Runners captain Ross Wilkes said:
“I’m immensely proud of this group of athletes we have with the club at the moment. They work so hard in training and on race day. Most importantly, they do it all with a smile on their face too. Bring on 2026!”
