A mystery shopper stepped in to pay for much-needed dog food for Island rescues during a heartwarming act of kindness at Pets at Home.
An Isle of Wight animal charity has praised the generosity of a stranger after he unexpectedly paid for a trolley full of dog food during a shopping trip yesterday evening (Tuesday).
The charity says it was running dangerously low on tinned dog food for both its rescue animals and pet food bank, prompting a visit to Pets at Home.
But as volunteers reached the checkout, a man named only as Barry offered to cover the entire cost before quietly leaving the store.
In a heartfelt message shared online, the charity said:
“We were shocked by his kindness. He flashed his card and off he went.”
“We stopped him before he left and could not thank him enough for his incredible generosity.”
“He said he loved animals and said what a great charity we were.”

Another customer who witnessed the exchange reportedly became emotional after seeing the random act of kindness unfold.
The charity added:
“With everything the way it is and so many people struggling to feed their four-legged family member, what you did this evening means so much to us and those we support.”

Pets at home work closely with friends of the animals and you can sign up for the rewards card which donates to them every time you scan it to purchase items. They also do charity events during easter and xmas for animal charities, friends of the animals being one of them.
They receive vouchers several times during the year and also set up a donation table in store Selling raffle tickets and giving customers their newsletter.
So everyone can donate without it costing that much, just the price of your shop or a raffle ticket.
