Over £30,000 has been raised for the Island branch of Wessex Cancer Trust thanks to this year’s Rainbow Run – Bubble Fun.
More than 700 runners, walkers and dancers joined the 3km course at its new venue, the Isle of Wight County Showground, to battle their way through inflatables, bubble stations and powder paint all to raise money to support those locally affected by cancer.
Several waves of runners set off throughout the day at what has become Wessex Cancer Trust’s biggest annual fundraiser.
Laura Haytack, Regional Fundraising Manager, said:
“The popularity of Rainbow Run never ceases to amaze us at Wessex Cancer Trust. On what had to be one of the hottest days of the year thus far, Isle of Wight families and companies turned out in droves to have a great day out and help support the charity.
“We saw so many smiley, colourful faces proudly collecting their medals at the finish line. We’re so grateful to everyone who took part and all who helped make this event a success! From our runners, sponsors, supporters, donators and dedicated volunteers, this event simply wouldn’t be possible without you all.”
It is anticipated that the figure raised is likely to grow as sponsorship funds are still making their way to the Wessex Cancer Trust Support Centre in Newport.
