Darren Prouten, who was once described as 1 of the Island’s most prolific offenders, has been jailed for 27 weeks and handed a 903-day driving ban extension following his latest theft and motoring offences.
40-year-old Prouten, of no fixed abode, was stopped by officers whilst he was driving a BMW in Meadowside, Newport on 6th March this year. He was arrested and subsequently charged with driving without insurance and driving whilst disqualified.
Prouten was also charged with further counts of driving without insurance and driving whilst disqualified in relation to an incident on Brading Road, Ryde on 21st February.
In addition, Prouten was charged with theft from a motor vehicle in relation to a car waterproof cover that was stolen in Newport on 18th August last year, and 3 counts of shoplifting.
The shoplifting incidents took place between 29th March 2022 and 23rd April 2022. £99.99 worth of goods were stolen from The Range in Cowes, an unknown quantity of items were stolen from B&Q in Newport, and £63 worth of goods were stolen from Sainsbury’s in Newport.
Prouten admitted all of the offences and was jailed for 27 weeks when he appeared before Magistrates in Newport this morning (Wednesday). In addition, he was ordered to pay £199 in compensation, and given a 903-day extension to his driving ban.
In 2019 Darren Prouten was jailed for 17 months for a series of other theft and motoring offences. Then, in December 2020, he was handed a 16-week prison sentence for driving whilst disqualified.

if 17 months and another 16 weeks inside didn’t stop this pathetic tvvat, I can’t see that another 27 weeks will make the slightest difference,..
he probably just sees it as a paid-for holiday (full board, own room, colour TV) & it’s obviously not a deterrent for him
At least it keeps him off the streets for a while. Personally would have him in stocks
Don’t think this leopard will change his spots !
Put him in the army for a couple of years. They will sort the low life out
As long as it’s the Russian army.
So take a “wrong un” a teach them the skills of evasion, discipline and how to kill.
Sounds like a plan.
Can we just leave him in prison. Maybe get him a room with Charles Bronson.
Or he could just come to live in my house. I’d look after him.
Get his retired father(prison officer) and mother are extremely proud of their oxygen thief son
Send him off to Rawanda please.
Bring back the old ‘Borstal’ and chuck this waste of space there. A few weeks with ex sas, paras, commandos and army personnel will absolutely break this idiot. Trouble is the do-gooders would object and say it would be too tough and cruel.
Borstals were for under-16s. They were not run by “ex sas, paras, commandos and army personnel”. Just send him to prison forever.
Been away and just got back. In 1902 the borstal was designed for 16-21 yrs old. With apologies I should have stated that it was my wish that ex sas etc., should be employed.
Needs to be put down for the sake of society.
27 weeks so he will be out in 13 weeks to terrorise good hard working islanders JOKE
Nice to see the judicial system working so well !!!
The sentence will have no effect on him, he will just plot and gain info for his next stint of freedom. With the state of the world at present the government really need to consider bring back National Service it may do some like Prouten a respect for humanity.
Prolific thieving scum should get regular finger cracks from a lump of wood each time they steal something, not a namby pamby do gooders sentence as much use as a smacked wrist. This piece of s*it will be out in just a few weeks and doing the same thing the same day he gets out
injection done no more gone and forgotten…
