UPDATED: A power cut is affecting hundreds of homes and businesses in the Binstead, Ryde and Wootton areas this lunchtime (Friday).

UPDATE @ 12:22 – SSEN have confirmed that the power cut initially affected around 2,440 properties in the Binstead, Ryde and Wootton areas as a result of an issue with the high voltage network. However, that number has now been reduced to 974 customers who remain without power this afternoon.
A spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has said:
“We are expecting to restore power to the remaining properties by 2pm this afternoon. Our engineers are currently investigating the cause of this fault, but their main priority is to restore power to our customers as quickly as they can.
“We would like to thank our customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused as our engineers work to restore their power as quickly and as safely as possible”.
