POWER CUT HITS CENTRAL PARTS OF THE ISLE OF WIGHT


UPDATED: A power cut has hit hundreds of properties in rural central and western parts of the Isle of Wight this morning (Wednesday).

The outage hit at around 09:20 and is currently affecting more than 86 postcodes in areas such as Brighstone, Calbourne, Chillerton, Shorwell and even some parts of Newport.

Brighstone Primary School is one of the properties without power, which is affecting the IT system. The Isle of Wight Council says the school remains open.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Network engineers are investigating the fault and power is expected to be restored by 11:30.

UPDATE @ 12:57 – 45 postcode areas remain without power this afternoon, with the expected resolve time now extended to 14:30.
