The Isle of Wight Council will receive in the region of £1.6million to spend purely on repairing the Island’s potholes.
Local authorities across the country are being given extra money to fix a pothole pandemic, with the Government announcing an investment of £500million.
The Council will be expected to identify the worst roads and deliver immediate fixes.
With the average cost of a pothole repair coming in at just over £70, the extra money could be enough to repair more than 20,000 potholes across the Isle of Wight.
This fresh funding is above and beyond the Highways PFI.
How much of this will be squandered to pay for overpaid council worker’s
pensions.

How much of this pot will actually be spent on fixing potholes, and how much will be allocated to the office workers at the council who are responsible for highways.Pot holes are not fixed corectly, I know of one that has been repaired three times in a year, they come along rake it out, add some repair, tamp it down and go, never seal it and ignore the one hole five feet away because it wasnt on their list,

By the time the council have employed a “pothole manager” three secretaries and 2 deputies unfortunately there will be no money left.
That is good as long as the persons repairing the
potholes know what they are doing.

The MoJ gave the council £6.3 million for the upkeep of the THREE prison estate which they haven’t even touched yet. So £1.6 million won’t go very far will it?
