The hard work, dedication and commitment of students and staff at Christ the King College has been rewarded with GCSE results that they deserve.
With around 200 students taking exams this summer, Christ the King College has achieved a significant increase on its performance of 2014, a performance that last year saw the College receive an award for the progress of its students, placing it in the top 20% of schools nationally.
To have improved further on that achievement in 2015 is what the College has been aspiring towards all year and Principal, Mrs Pat Goodhead, has spoken about her “Immense pride in the students and staff who continue year on year to work together to achieve the best they can for each and every individual student.”
This year, provisional results indicate that Christ the King College students have excelled in the core subjects of English and Maths, with 78% gaining a C grade and above in English and 75% achieving C and above in Maths; 70% of students achieved C and above in both, with 68% achieving 5A* – C , including both English and Maths. Early indications also suggest that these figures exceed the provisional national averages and that the College’s Value Added figure is also strong.
Success has not been confined to the core subjects. Early analysis of results across all subjects indicates that there is much to celebrate all round. Indeed, the College is rightly proud of its students who once again have achieved some remarkable individual successes, including Chantelle Biggs and Driscoll Green who both achieved 10 A*s, 2As and a B; Charlotte Phillips who achieved 9 A*s and 4 As; and Jacob Lewis who achieved 8 A*s, 5 As and 1 B. There were many other students celebrating their high grades with Edward Webb, Joshua Taylor, Saskia Norris, Rueben Brading-Cornish, Saskia Robertson, Rachel Thornton, Luke Joynes and Andrea Mae Consolacion all celebrating a total of 64 A*s and As between them.
Mrs Goodhead is keen to stress, however, that what really matters is the progress that young people make from their starting points and, as a school that prides itself on its inclusivity, staff and students are celebrating the progress made by all their students, from the wide range of abilities and across the broad range of subjects studied. As the Principal points out:
“Whilst there are an impressively high number of students with results that include the top grades, students can of course make good and outstanding progress and achieve much lower grades; schools should never lose sight of their impressive achievements too. Every child matters to us.”
It has been and continues to be an exciting time for Christ the King College. With its growth in popularity over the years, including the rapid expanse of its successful Sixth Form, the school is finally looking forward to the commencement of its new building under the Priority Schools Building Programme for which the planning is already underway.
Mrs Goodhead added:
“What makes the achievements of the College all the more impressive is that staff and students continue to teach and learn in accommodation that was built for middle school children and is on separate sites. They should all be immensely proud of these results and we look forward to a wonderful future with the facilities and resources they so deserve.”
