Bembridge RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat was launched to reports of a dinghy drifting off the coast of the Isle of Wight this lunchtime (Wednesday).
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the D-Class lifeboat from Lane End at 12:08 to investigate a report of a dark coloured inflatable or rowing boat seen drifting near Seagrove Bay.
Given the relatively calm conditions, it did not take long for the ‘Norman Harvey’ and her crew to reach the area where the drifting item had been reported.
The ‘dinghy’ transpired to be a large piece of polystyrene float. Having secured it on board, the lifeboat crew returned to Lane End and the Norman Harvey was recovered by 12:40.

Would a decent pair of binoculars be cheaper?
