POLICE PURSUING CAR IN FRESHWATER

UPDATED: Police are reported to be pursuing a car in Freshwater this evening (Sunday).

A small hatchback – possibly a Peugeot 106 – has been seen to be traveling a speed in the West Wight town, closely followed by multiple Police cars.

The suspect car was last seen heading towards Yarmouth.

Separately, a Southern Vectis Route 7 bus has been involved in a collision with a car at Norton Green. As a result of the incident the 18:05 from Alum Bay to Newport has been terminated.

UPDATE @ 19:10 – It understood the vehicle has come to a stop at Yarmouth Bridge, having possibly crashed.

No further information is available at this time. Police are on the scene.

UPDATE @ 21:10Island Echo understands the male driver of the vehicle has been arrested by Police as he tried to flee from the area of Yarmouth Bridge, just yards from the town’s Police office.

It is thought the vehicle, with several occupants, has been travelling the wrong way around roundabouts, through no entry signs and mounting pavements.

The car is being recovered from the scene and the driver has been taken into custody at Newport Police Station.

Hampshire Constabulary are yet to comment on the incident.
